Dramatic Seascape

DOMESTIC SEASCAPE.tif1976 and 1979
(3 negatives)

‘The layers of our being collide and crash with layers of meaning. These, in turn, grate against the physical reality, which our bodies inhabit, creating pleasure and pain. The book of life is for you to write as surely as the waves on a beach, calm or rough, be mindful of the undercurrents.’  (from Hags book ‘How Things Are’)

The three people on the beach behind the dog in the book are Arabella Churchill, Jake Barton (Arabella’s son) who is also standing next to the book and Emily Young. It is Hag who is leaping in the air photographed by Arrabella  in Crete in 1976. Hag originally  made this image in early 1976 as a 16×12 ins print. He reprinted it in 1979 as a 20×16 ins print extending the top trees and sky.
