Spilling Time

Original version for R.K.H. Ltd advertising agency

‘Time is a funny thing; the way it disappears and reappears when you’re not looking. It seems to be related to the properties of light. All my life, since studying science at school, I have been interested in the nature of light. The contradiction of it behaving both as a wave and as a particle. The difficulties of the speed of light being constant and time being a movable feast. To understand this we are led to define perception itself. So we arrive at the basic philosophical questions of our being. Why am I here and why does it often feel so strange, so uncomfortable, so beautiful and so divine?’  (from Hags book ‘How Things Are’)

Original proof for the R.K.H. Ltd advertising image.Hag re-worked this image seating the sun dial on the ground. He changed the sky and added more shadow splashes then inserted the further elements of the diver and spectacles.

Three photographs were commissioned on the theme of time to Advertise TSMS (Television Sales & Marketing Services UK) who sold commercial time on television. It was a national campaign with full page adverts in national papers as well as trade magazines and of course a TV commercial. The retouching on this proof especially on the butchers face was heavy to compensate for the poor quality and course screen reproduction found in the national press in 1990. This was standard practice.
