Commissioned for the rock band ‘Yes’ to illustrate a song called ‘Does it really happen’ for their tour brochure. The band didn’t like Does it really happen 1 saying ‘We don’t have guns’ which I then removed and added the footprints in the sand walking away as above ‘Does it really happen 2’ which was accepted.
‘This is the street where I was brought up in Leeds, from the age of eleven until I left home at nineteen to study photography in London. We moved here from a nearby council estate after my parents had saved for years for a deposit to buy the house. Of course the mountains aren’t there, but being dragged across the Yorkshire Dales in horizontal rain with my sister, was a formative experience. The other stuff also arrived with the commission from the progressive rock band ‘Yes’ – for whom these two images were made, and from whence comes the title.’ (from Hags book ‘How Things Are’)
