‘We build societies that separate us from our environment, but we are of this world, created in it. What we do is evolutionary. We have, however, a conscious hand in it. Free will exists as well as apparent determinism. Big or small, some things are in front of us even when they are behind. We are not always aware of what ripples we leave in our wake and what effect they may have in the future. All we can try to do is to be as careful as a careful gardener.’
